Dala Bridge (Wind Tunnel Testing)
Korea-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Dala, Myanmar, which will link the downtown Yangon to Dala township is 1,872m in total length consisting of two concrete towers with the height of 144m, and has a main span of 320m and suspended side spans of 135m with deck accommodating 4 lanes of a carriageway. The bridge has been publicly discussed since 2012, framed as a Korean gesture of goodwill toward Myanmar. After a temporary pause in negotiations, the two governments agreed that Korea would issue a loan to fund construction. The bridge will take around five years to build and construction is slated for completion by the end of 2020.
The wind tunnel tests and analyses were carried out to investigate the wind-induced behaviors of the bridge during and after the construction. The items of tests and analyses are described as follows:
Wind Tunnel Test/Analysis Conducted:
▣ Section model test of bridge deck
▣ Aeroelastic model test of free standing pylon
▣ Aeroelastic model test of full bridge
