Bangkapi Flyover Bridge Traffic Vibration Test
The primary purpose of installing Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) on the Bangkapi Bridge is to mitigate vibrations in the bridge deck induced by traffic loads.
 
To achieve this goal, the installation of Cantilever TMD was chosen as it is operable at low peak acceleration thanks to its low friction coefficient. Cantilever TMD’s advantages are low friction, easy spring design and moving mass adjustment, thereby enabling smooth adjustment of TMD’s natural frequency.
 
After a successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), four sets of TMDs were installed in the lower part of the bridge deck. The effectiveness of the vibration reduction was confirmed by the Site Acceptance Test (SAT), which utilized a heavy truck to simulate substantial traffic loads.
