Bonridong Taewang Honors High-Rise Residential building exhibits considerable height and slenderness ratio, rendering it susceptible to wind-induced vibrations. Specifically, vibrations in the crosswind direction were notably higher than those in the alongwind direction due to vortex shedding and aerodynamic instability. Naturally, these aspects formed the focal point of our wind tunnel tests. As a result of the tests and the following assessments on the serviceability, it was found that the vibration accelerations exceeded acceptable limits, necessitating remedial measures.
 
To mitigate these vibrations, the installation of vibration control devices was deemed necessary. Among various types of TMDs, a Passive Pendulum Tuned Mass Damper (PTMD) was selected based on considerations, including vibration control efficiency and site conditions. A 100-ton PTMD system capable of mitigating vibrations in both the X and Y directions was subsequently installed on the roof level. Performance excitation testing post-installation confirmed a reduction in wind-induced vibrations.
