The Taiwan’s A25 Fubon Tower, a remarkable structure with 54-floor and 56m height, is an office building which is vulnerable to wind-induced vibration due to its height. As a result of the wind-tunnel test, we confirmed that there is a need for improvement of serviceability in the building, therefore we decided to install TMD.
At the initial design stage of the TMD proposal, our goal was to control the peak acceleration against the 1-year Mean Recurrence Interval (MRI) wind-load. However, as the project progressed, additional conditions were introduced: the TMD must withstand a 50-year MRI wind-load and 475 MRI earthquake. In response, we selected a non-linear damper to ensure that the TMD’s displacement remains within safe limits during long-MRI wind-loads and seismic loads. We then installed a pendulum-type TMD with the non-linear damper applied, featuring a moving mass of 500 tons, the largest in TE Solution’s history. A performance test, conducted post-installation with the participation of relevant personnel, confirmed the TMD’s exceptional vibration control performance. |
