2nd Jindo Bridge (Tuned Mass Dampers)
Vortex induced vibration observed on the 2nd Jindo Bridge prior to TMD installation
|
Jindo Bridge is a pair of cable-stayed bridges with the 1st one built in 1984 and the 2nd one built right adjacent to the 1st Jindo Bridge in 2005 with the main span of 344m.
Wind blew from the 1st Jindo bridge side to the 2nd Jindo bridge and vortex-induced vibration was observed on the windward bridge (2nd bridge) deck which is very unique as for most of other cases, its the leeward structure that vibrates due to the wake caused by the windward structure. To mitigate the amplitude of vibration, 4 sets of 3.5 ton TMD(Tuned Mass Damper) designed by TESolution were installed inside the bridge deck to reduce the vertical amplitude of 30cm to mere 3cm. Specifications of Cable Dampers: ▣ Type: TMD (4 sets) ▣ Control direction: vertical dir. ▣ Specification - Moving mass: 3.25 ton (4 set) -Installation Location : Steel box girder ▣ Conceptual & Detailed Design / Manufacture / Installation / Performance test / |
