Dangjin Power Plant Stack
The Dangjin Power Plant's No.9 and No.10 Stacks are 200m in height with high slenderness ratio. The design of these kind of structures are typically determined with resistance against wind load, rather than resistance against earthquakes. Moreover, the across-wind vibration caused by vortex-induced vibration and aerodynamic instability, rather than by buffeting. The existance of vortex induced vibration and aerodynamic instability vibration must be checked as well. The stacks are very close to the massive boiler building, and its wind effects are also factors. In order to assess all the factors stated above, wind tunnel tests are a necessity.
