Incheon International Airport ATC Towers
The Air Traffic Control Tower (ATC Tower) is bound to be heavily affected by wind due to its slender ratio and its broad and flat surface surroundings. Whereas wind induced vibration is a common occurrence for these structures, their habitability is imperative as the structure that ensures the safety of the planes.
The challenge of installing a TMD in an ATC Tower is the availability of space. The ATC towers are heavily equipped with numerous devices and machines, and while the space is limited, work space and rest space for the ATC staffs that have to reside long time in the tower due to their nature of work.
TESolution installed the first active-type vibration control device in Korea on the 1st terminal of ATC Tower of Incheon International Airport in 2000. After a decade, the 2nd Terminal of Incheon International Airport is being built, and TESolution is also installing the new advanced active-type vibration control device.

HMD(Hybrid type Mass Damper) means it has the characteristics of both AMD and TMD. Hence, for small displacement, AMD portion activates whereas for big displacement, TMD portion activates to mitigate wind induced vibration on the structure.
