Mersey Gateway Bridge (Wind Resistant Design)
Wind Tunnel Test/Analysis Conducted:
▣ Section model test of bridge deck ▣ Section model test of pylon leg ▣ Aeroelastic model test of free standing pylon ▣ Wind shield model test ▣ Force balance test of car |
The Mersey Gateway Bridge comprises three parts: North Approach Viaduct, Main Crossing and South Approach Viaduct. The Main Crossing will be a four-span, three-mono-pylon, cable-stayed bridge with a total span of approximately 998m. Approach viaducts to the north and south of the main crossing will be approximately 706m and 544m in length respectively taking the total span (abutment-to-abutment) to approximately 2.25km. The wind tunnel tests and analyses were carried out to investigate the wind-induced behaviors of the bridge during and after construction. The items of tests and analyses are described as follows: |
